Fishing in the Canal. Deer Pond, Viking Fishery.
The Boothferry section of the Aire & Calder canal (from Great Heck to Rawcliffe Bridge) provides an ideal venue for coarse fishing for both pleasure anglers and the more serious match fishermen. Matches usually take place on Sundays, and attract anglers from many local fishing clubs. A dozen or so species have been caught, including roach, bream and skimmers. Most anglers use the pole, but stick float, waggler and feeder methods all work. Popular baits are maggot, pinkie, squat and caster.
The nearest access point is off Crow Croft Bridge.

Off the canal are the ponds of the Viking Fishery. This is a family run business specializing in coarse fishing for club matches and pleasure. It is approached along the minor road to the north-east of Crow Croft Bridge. Open matches are held every Saturday.
